I'm not sure if a backup/wipe/restore will kill that old iCloud account entry or not (and I'm reticent to try since I dont want to be the one to loose something of his in the process!). There is nothing actually stored in that old iCloud, he just wants to switch he iPad to the new account. Trouble is.now he cant remove that old AppleID from the iCloud setting on the iPad since doing so requires a password he's long forgotten (and of course cant get a new one since he doesn't have access to that email address any more). When he subsequently called Apple Support, for whatever reason they couldn't simply change the email on that old account: they had him create a new account (and credited it with the $ balance he had sitting on the old one). Then one day he changed ISPs without first changing the email address in his Apple ID. My dad had an apple ID permeating his iPad.
